Eli Lilly Boosts Full Year Outlook (LLY, WYN, WLP, UMC, HST, CVE)

 

Eli Lilly & Co (NYSE:LLY) jumped up 1.18% to $40.43 after the Company released first quarter results. Revenue decreased 4.1% to $5.6 billion. Profit was $1.01 billion or 91 cents per share compared to $1.06 billion or 95 cents in the prior year period. The earnings fell 4.2% as the patent expiration of Zyprexa lowered the revenue and margins.

The Company lifted its full-year earnings estimate to $3.15 to $3.30 a share from its January forecast of $3.10 to $3.20 and backed its revenue guidance.

 

Wyndham Worldwide Corporation (NYSE:WYN) soared 3.57% to $48.79 after the Company reported first quarter results.  Earnings per share were $0.60 compared to $0.44 in the first quarter of 2011. Revenues rose 9% to $1.0 billion. The increase reflects growth in all of our business units led by the Company’s Lodging and Vacation Ownership businesses. Net income was $90 million or $0.60 per diluted share compared to $79 million in the prior year period.

 

WellPoint Inc (NYSE:WLP) increased 0.81% to $71.34. The Company posted first quarter net income of $856.5 million or $2.53 per share compared to net income of $926.6 million or $2.44 per share in the prior year period. Operating revenue increased 3.4% to $15.2 billion in the first quarter of 2012.

The Company repurchased approximately 10.2 million shares of its common stock for $679.8 million in the first quarter 2012. The Company paid a quarterly dividend of $0.2875 per share.

 

United Microelectronics Corp (ADR) (NYSE:UMC) soared 1.20% to $2.54. The Company reported first quarter net profit of NT$1.34 billion compared to NT$4.48 billion. Analysts expected earnings of NT$566.5. Revenue decreased 15% to NT$23.77 billion.

 

Host Hotels and Resorts Inc (NYSE:HST) plunged 1.85% to $16.47. The Company reported first quarter loss of $2 million or zero cents per diluted share compared to  $60 million or 9 cents per diluted share in the previous year period. Comparable hotel revenue and revenue per available room increased 27% to 14 cents.

The Company expects comparable hotel RevPAR will increase 5% to 7% and total revenues under GAAP would increase 5.5% to 7.5% for fiscal year 2012. The net income should range from $108 million to $154 million for 2012.

 

 

Cenovus Energy Inc (USA) (NYSE:CVE) is up 0.49% to $34.67 after the Company declared first quarter results. Net earnings were C$426 million or 56 Canadian cents per share versus C$47 million or 6 Canadian cents in the prior year period. Cash flow was C$904 million or C$1.19 per share compared to C$693 million or 91 Canadian cents per in the prior year period.
