McDonald’s Corporation Falls On Earnings (MCD, DGI, NRG, LMNX, GWR)

McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) declined 2.45% to $88.88 on a traded volume of 3.36 million shares. The Company posted second quarter net income of $1.35 billion or $1.32 per share compared to $1.41 billion or $1.35 per share in the prior year period.  However, analysts estimated $1.37 per share. Sales were $6.92 billion compared to $6.91 billion in the prior year period.

DigitalGlobe Inc (NYSE:DGI) went down 0.77% to $14.11. DigitalGlobe Inc has agreed to acquire GeoEye Inc for around $900 million. This acquisition will create the world’s largest commercial-imagery satellite company. GeoEye stockholders can either have 1.137 shares of DigitalGlobe common stock and $4.10 per share in cash or receive all stock valued at about $20.27 per share.

NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:NRG) increased 7.09% to $19.33. The Company will purchase GenOn Energy Inc for around $1.7 billion. NRG said it will pay 0.1216 share of its common stock for each GenOn share. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2013. The new board will have 16 members. This will include 12 members from NRG and four from GenOn’s Board.

Luminex Corporation (NASDAQ:LMNX) jumped up 4.78% to $17.76. JPMorgan Chase upgraded the rating on the stock from underweight to neutral. The Company expects to report results for the second quarter of 2012 on July 30, 2012.

Genesee & Wyoming Inc (NYSE:GWR) went down 0.04% to $55.96. Genesee & Wyoming Inc and RailAmerica Inc have entered into an agreement under which GWI will acquire RailAmerica for purchase price of $27.50 per share. The acquisition of RailAmerica will combine the two largest short line and regional rail operators in North America. The Company expects to fund the transaction and the simultaneous refinancing of its existing debt with approximately $2.0 billion of new debt and approximately $800 million of equity or equity-linked securities.
