Most Active S&P 500 stocks: NYSE Euronext (NYX), Microsoft (MSFT), Ford Motor (F) and Merck (MRK)

U.S. markets rose in the wake of positive news on housing. The National Association of Realtors reported sales of existing home advanced 5.9 percent in November to an annualized rate of 5.04 million units, the best growth since November 2009. The first-time applications for unemployment aid rose 17,000 to 361,000 in the week ended Dec. 15.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index gained the most percentage, led by NYSE Euronext (NYSE:NYX) after IntercontinentalExchange Inc. (NYSE: ICE) decided to acquire the company for $8.2 billion.

The share price of NYSE Euronext (NYX) gained 34.10% during trading yesterday, ending at $32.25. At that price, the company has a market cap of $7.84 billion and a P/E ratio of 19.12. The stock has a 52 week worst hit of $22.25 and a 52 week high of $33.38. The P/S ratio is 2.01 and P/B ratio 1.23. Dividend yield stands at 3.72 percent. The beta value is 1.62. NYX’s RSI amounts to 90.80.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was one of the most active stocks after the European Commission yesterday revealed that it is close to a decision in its investigation of US giant and its failure to offer clients with a choice of Web browser, as it had promised to do.

In other news, FBR Capital analyst David Hilal trimmed his EPS estimates for the company. He cited that Windows 8 is off to a disappointing start.

The market value of the software giant is $232.97 billion. It has 94,000 people in workforce, over the last 12 months has generated revenue of $72.36 million and has earnings of $15.71 million. The firm’s operating margin is 27.46 percent and net profit margin 21.71 percent. The latest closing price of its shares moved down -0.43% from the 50-day moving average.

In other corporate news, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) and its community relations arm recently rolled out a major program in Detroit to support neighborhoods and provide support for education, summer jobs programs and other community needs.

For Ford Motor (F), a return on equity of 142.46 percent has been realized due to the financial position. Last twelve months per-share profit reached a value of $4.42. Last fiscal year, $0.20 has been paid in form of dividends to investors. Earnings are projected to move up 197.00 percent for the coming five years. The stock closed at $11.77, up 0.04 points or 0.34% from previous close and at a distance of +3.79% from 20-day simple moving average.

In the last trading session, Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK)’s price moved 20% above its 200 day moving average, changing hands as low as $42.00 per share. The stock is currently trading 55% down its SMA 50 after its cholesterol drug failed. The worst hit in its 52 week range is $36.91 per share, with $48.00 being the 52 week best price, which compares with a latest closing price of $42.16. The Beta of this stock is 0.30.
