  • Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) Searching For ‘Intellectual Property’ Majors

Amazon.com, Inc.(NASDAQ:AMZN) is reportedly hiring a cadre of experts in the field of intellectual property for gaining a push in patent acquisition and licensing. This has been the most recent turn in its intensifying battles with Google and Apple in terms of digital content and mobile gadgets.

Amazon has recruited Argos Search, a recruiting company in order to find an ‘Acquisition and Investment Leader’ who can identify and assess strategic IP acquisition and licensing prospects. This was revealed through a job description obtained from Reuters.

The candidate has to work closely with all of Amazon’s technology teams and leaders, who are working on future product development. The company has stated in the job posting that the company is rapidly growing in several new and interesting technology fields. In order to support and secure the expansion venture, the company is looking for an executive, who can work with the business teams and obtain intellectual property.

A spokeswoman from Amazon did not respond to an email that required her to reply. Also, an Argos recruiter who is working on this project, Thomas Wedewer has refused to comment.

The search indicates that Amazon is planning on accumulating more patents through acquisitions of patent-rich companies or through purchases of patent licensing and portfolios. This information has been gathered through intellectual property experts. This venture is also indicative of the fact that the world’s largest internet retailer means serious business in the world of digital content and mobile devices.

David Pridham from IPNav has stated that as Amazon gets into wireless devices and digital content, it realizes the best possible way to handle this is to get more upbeat in IP. He also said that the company is following the footsteps of Apple by delivering digital media features to their own hardware gadgets. That is the kind of technology that the company wants to build an IP hedge around.
