Amazon.com, Inc.(NASDAQ:AMZN) to introduce a new online store for eco-friendly customers
The reach of Amazon.com, Inc.(NASDAQ:AMZN), and its foray into e-commerce is almost unparalleled. It is one of the biggest names of online shopping sites, and the company is constantly expanding, and adding new sites under its banner. Its newest adopted child is a site for the environmentally conscious people. Vine.com has been taken by Amazon, and the site sells a range of products which are eco-friendly in more than one ways.
The reason the site is an adopted child, is because it was originally owned by Quidsi, but the company was soon bought by Amazon in 2010. Amazon has been dipping its fingers into numerous pies, and it has acquired a number of other sites such as Dipaers.com, which specializes in baby products, and YoYo.com, which sells toys. Vine.com, however, will be selling a number of different things, starting from bedcovers and accessories, to baby products, toys, and clothes.
The term ‘eco-friendly’ may be a very vague one, but the site has made sure that the terms of environment-friendly products are specified for prospective buyers. The materials which their products are made out of, should be natural and organic, the products should be reusable, they should be designed so as to remove all kinds of toxic materials, the products should be made through renewable sources of energy, and they should be made in an energy efficient way. The products themselves should be energy efficient, and water efficient.
Josh Dorfman, who is the leader of the site, was the man behind the Lazy Environmentalist books, radio and television shows. He made it very clear that the site does not aim to save the plane so much as it tries to impinge upon the resources as less as possible. He has also said that the tag of ‘eco-friendly’ is not enough, and that vendors have been asked to give their feedback regarding the quality of the goods.
The very fact that Amazon owns such a site is an anomaly for a lot of people, because the site has never hinted at being eco-friendly at any point. It has been a honcho in the sector of e-commerce, with warehouses consuming a lot of energy, the fuel used for the delivery, and the cardboard and bubble wraps being used for the packaging.
