On Tuesday The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) has revealed it would break ground for a propulsion facility in South Carolina, North Charleston, increasing its facilities in the nonunion state.
The aircraft manufacturer latest facility, which will be generally called Propulsion South Carolina, will assemble and design the737 MAX engine nacelle inlet. It is the outer housing of an aircraft engine.
The US aircraft maker revealed it expansion plan, when it is also looking forward to manufacturing its latest 777X aircraft. The plane is expected to start manufacture the aircraft at outside of Washington State, but the work on the aircraft will be started as the company reached a final deal with the union worker leaders. On coming Wednesday the union worker are due to vote on the deal, and if the deal do not reached then aircraft manufacture will opt for South Carolina as its next site for the new jet.
The company new facility will be a 225,000-square-foot at a site at Palmetto Commercial Park, where the company 787 Dreamliner interior parts are manufactured.
According to the company’s spokesman Robert Gross for South Carolina said on Friday, the assembly of engine nacelle inlet is likely to initiate from the mid of 2015. In the start the company will work on engineering design for the engine nacelle inlet. With this project 737 MAX engineering design works will mark latest propulsion facility in South Carolina on any commercial aircraft following 787.
The site is on land that the company owns approximately at a 10 miles distance from its main campus in North Charleston, which is a second assembly plant for the company 787 Dreamliner. However with the addition of new propulsion facility, the company does not provide any detail regarding the number of jobs this facility would add. While previously the company, in spring, in its $1 billion expansion has add approximately 6,100 workers in South Carolina. The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) share advanced 1.51% to $133.49 in last trading session.
