American Airlines to Merge with US Airways
American Airlines was poised to merge with US Airways after the Justice Department announced it was dropping it’s opposition to the proposed merger. One condition to the approval is that American, as the company will be known after the merger, give up room at several major airports such as Boston’s Logan Airport. This agreement ensures budget airliners, such as Southwest, remain competitive in those markets.

The merge between American Airlines and US Airways is the lastest example of major airlines merging together. After Delta joined forces with Northwest, and Continental with United, the move between American and Us Airways seemed inevitable.
