David Cameron, what Thursday means to Green Deal Installers

David Cameron will announce new plans to cut energy costs across the UK on Thursday 5th December. The announcement will come as many Green Deal installers are worried about the impact this will have on Green Deal installer and also the valuable ECO deal, that delivers free insulation measures, to the most fuel poor households across the UK. The announcement comes as Labour put pressure on energy companies to freeze energy prices, for consumers across the UK, who are struggling with the year on year increase in energy bill prices.

David Cameron seems to quickly forget his motto of “vote blue, go green”, cutting the amount of ECO measures that would have been installed between 2013 and 2015, will be now diluted, meaning that energy companies now have two more years to hit their targets and also to recoup some of their costs, through a downward cost model. This means that energy companies will roll the cost down onto consumers energy bills, over a longer period of time.

Thursday is a big day for Green Deal Installers across the UK as it seems that with the ECO obligation being extended by two years, will mean there are less installs to do year to year, meaning that there will be an estimated 10,000 job losses in the construction and insulation industry and will see the automatic bankruptcy of insulation firms, who have setup shop under the pretence that ECO would run only till 2015, with high targets set for utility companies to insulate peoples homes across the UK.

Now that this is not the case, there will be a decrease in the amount of installs needed and therefore, less man power will be needed. It comes at a time when families across the UK will be worrying how to heat their own homes and also pay for presents for christmas.
