Proud Moment For Facebook Inc(NASDAQ:FB) As It Hits 1 Billion Users

The radical moment is here. Facebook Inc(NASDAQ:FB) finally exceeded 1 billion users.

CEO and co-founder mark Zuckerberg declared on Monday that his social networking site has hit another milestone. He believes that helping a billion people connect feels humbling, amazing and has made him proud.

Reaching the 1 billion mark means that Facebook now reaches one out of every 7 people on the planet.

The ever-present social media giant that was popularly created in a Harvard dorm room had never faced much trouble in attracting new members.

While the networking site started growing in Europe and North America, Facebook continues to lure new users throughout Asia and the rest of the developing world. It has a presence in over 200 sovereign territories, as per stats tracked by All Facebook that records data provided by Facebook to advertisers.

It took Facebook 6 years to hit the landmark of 500 million users and barely 2 years to double that figure. Facebook’s total membership has grown by nearly 30% over the last year, excluding regions like Brazil.

Less than 20% of Facebook’s members reside in the US and Canada. However, those members account for 48% of the $992 million in advertising revenue that Facebook took in last quarter.

The company is scrambling to increase its foothold in the mobile world, the next big thing for all social networks. By the end of this year, it is predicted that there will be more mobile devices on this planet than people, as per forecasts made by Cisco.

Half of Facebook’s members access the networking site at least once a month through mobile phones and an enormous 102 million members use only the mobile site. Building a better mobile user experience is one of the topmost priorities for Facebook.

We are yet to see where the social media giant will get its next 1 billion users. There is a major market that the firm has not yet explored – China. Facing bans for government censors, China’s 1.3 billion citizens use their own social networks like Tencent, Sina and Renren.
