Like any industry there will always be cowboys who look for vulnerable people who want to receive benefits that are freely entitled to those in the UK. Green Deal and Eco Deal incentives are no different, Green Deal and Eco Deal both are designed to provide homeowners and tenants with free energy saving measures in their homes, to help reduce carbon emissions in the UK.
Here are a few points to look out for when approached by any cold caller, realistically you should be avoiding cold callers when it comes to Green Deal as we they will often ask for a fee of around £500 which is not needed.
1. The only money you should part with under Green Deal should be the assessment, which is priced around £150-200 depending on which company you use. Do not pay more than this and the company should be a registered Green Deal Assessor Organisation (GDAO).
2. Do not use a company that is not a registered GDAO, they legally are not allowed to provide Green Deal Assessments.
3. Avoid those that ask for £500 upfront, this is usually a massive red flag with any cold caller or door knocker. You should not be asked for any money upfront.
4. If you are getting measures such as Cavity Wall Insulation or loft Insulation then you will not be charged a penny!
These are just a few pointers to look out for when it comes to both Green Deal and Eco deal and you should live by these as Green Deal and Eco Deal picks up momentum you will be contacted more and more.
