Barnes & Noble Pops Up On Jana’s Stake News (BKS, HLX, OTT, DHRM)
Barnes & Noble, Inc.(NYSE:BKS) shares are soaring over 12% after hedge fund Jana Partners disclosed that it owns nearly 7 million shares and has options to buy another 250,000 at $13 a share. Barnes & Noble in February reported fiscal third-quarter profit for the period ended Jan. 28 dropped 14% as higher expenses chipped away at the company’s top-line growth and masked higher same-store sales.
Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc.(NYSE:HLX) shared jumped sharply after the company posted a better than estimated first-quarter, earnings boosted by strong growth in its revenue. The company posted net income of $65.7 million or $0.62 a share, up sharply from a year ago profit of $25.9 million or $0.24 a share. Revenue during the latest quarter grew to $407.93 million from $291.61 million. Revenues from contracting services were $229.8 million compared to $122.7 million prior year. Analysts were estimating the company to report $0.43 per share for the quarter on revenue of $343.89 million.
The company also noted that its first-quarter 2012 results were impacted by $17.1 million of pre-tax charges and expense, or $0.10 per share after tax, related to the early extinguishment of a portion of convertible senior notes and senior unsecured notes.
Shares of HLX were up 8.70% to $18.87.
Otelco, Inc. (USA)(NASDAQ:OTT) shares slumped 42.64% to $6.90 and made a new 52-week low of $6.62 after the company ‘s one of its largest clients, Time Warner Cable Inc(NYSE:TWC) denied to renew its contract with the company. The contract to provide network connections accounted for 11.7 percent of Otelco’s 2011 revenue. It expires on December 31. The company further stated that it has suspended dividend immediately.
Dehaier Medical Systems Ltd(NASDAQ:DHRM) shares skyrocketing 41% to $3.15 after the company d it forged a three-year strategic cooperation agreement with medical firm Timesco of London Ltd. Beijing-based Dehaier will be the exclusive distributor in mainland China for Timesco’s entire Optima series of laryngoscopes. Laryngoscopes are used for tracheal intubations.
