Diversified Communication Stocks: BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY), Oi SA (NYSE:OIBR), Gogo Inc. (NASDAQ:GOGO), Novatel Wireless (NASDAQ:NVTL)

Whether it’s BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s win in the copyright lawsuit against Ryan Seacrest’s keyboard made for iPhones, or the company’s announcement that they will not renew its license with T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) to sell their products after their contract expires on April 25, it is clear that BlackBerry is stealing the headlines this week. BlackBerry Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY), shares after opening at $8.26 moved to $8.44 on last trade day and at the end of the day closed at $8.22. Company price to sales ratio in past twelve months was calculated as 0.34 and price to cash ratio as 1.58. BlackBerry Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY), showed a negative weekly performance of 9.17%.

Oi SA (ADR) (NYSE:OIBR) agreed to the deal in October 2012, with aspirations of creating a trans-Atlantic carrier with almost USD 17 billion in revenue and over 100 million subscribers. The merger if it goes through is projected to result in 5.5 billion reais via cost synergies, and reestablishing the company in Brazil, which with approximately 270 million subscribers is the world’s fifth-biggest cellular market. Oi SA (ADR), (NYSE:OIBR), shares advanced 1.47% in last trading session and ended the day on $1.38. Oi SA (ADR), (NYSE:OIBR), yearly performance is -49.08%.

Finally, Gogo Inc (NASDAQ:GOGO) is 4.7% higher at $22.42. The stock’s 30-day at-the-money implied volatility (IV) has gained 4.8% to dock at 68%, with short-term contracts in demand ahead of Gogo’s scheduled April 8 revelation of new in-flight technology. So far, around 22,000 calls have crossed the tape — four times the norm, and eight times the number of GOGO puts traded. Speculators have taken a shine to the in-the-money 21 strike, with the April 21, May 21, and August 21 calls most popular. IV has soared on all three strikes, and the latter two strikes have seen volume exceed open interest — all signs of new positions being initiated. Calls were already the options of choice among buyers, as the equity’s 10-day call/put volume ratio on the International Securities Exchange (ISE), Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), and NASDAQ OMX PHLX (PHLX) sits at a lofty 9.76. Gogo Inc. (NASDAQ:GOGO), shares moved down 4.34% in last trading session and was closed at $21.17, while trading in range of $ 20.64 – 22.40. Gogo Inc. (NASDAQ:GOGO), year to date (YTD) performance is -14.71%.

Novatel Wireless Inc. (NASDAQ:NVTL) missed analysts’ estimates on earnings and revenue in fiscal 4Q 2013 and posting a below-estimates 1Q 2014 guidance. But in my opinion, that was an overreaction that completely ignores the underlying improvements the company has made in several fronts to exit 2014 as a profitable enterprise. Novatel Wireless Inc. (NASDAQ:NVTL), weekly performance is 14.36%. On last trading day company shares ended up $2.07. Novatel Wireless Inc. (NASDAQ:NVTL), distance from 50-day simple moving average (SMA50) is -13.29%.
