Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is working with part suppliers in Asia to test numerous designs for television sets, people having knowledge with the situation stated, hinting that the firm is moving closer to increasing its offerings for the sitting room.
Officials at some of Apple’s suppliers stated that the firm has been testing designs for a big-screen high-definition set.
Two people stated Hon Hai Precision Industry, which assembles the iPhone and iPad, has been working together with Japan’s Sharp Corporation on the design of the fresh television for several months. But whereas working with suppliers shows that a project has moved further along, such movement does not bear fruit all the time. The Cupertino, California, firm has been testing TV prototypes for many years and still could decide not to progress with the large-screen set.
Apple Inc. allegedly is testing numerous designs for a big-screen television, and Silicon Valley VC luminary Marc Andreessen says they will see a TV from Cupertino by 2015.
Andreessen commented Wednesday at the DealBook conference that it’s one of those poorly kept Valley secrets. This adds to the flood of speculation, rumor and innuendo surrounding the maximum product Apple still has not publicized.
Andreessen accepted that he does not have any direct inside knowledge of the project and confessed Apple is scandalously tight-lipped regarding its plans, but in relation to Business Insider he stated that rumors regarding an Apple TV are strong and we will see something coming year or in 2014 or perhaps 2015.
