Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is upgrading its Windows Phone 8 operating system for mobile devices so that could feasibly accommodate in larger devices.
This would be the third update to mobile operating system that was launched last year. While the handset that carry this ecosystem will be available in the market in coming few weeks, as well as updates will be also available for those who wants to update their device with latest software.
The third largest operating system will be available with new Driving Mode, in this mode the device will be involuntarily silence receiving texts and calls and so that driver cannot be disturbed during driving. The person who is calling will receive an automatic reply that receiver is driving.
The new operating system will also carry another facility that the device will be automatically linked with a Bluetooth device while driving like headset. This kind of feature also carries by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) dubbed as Do Not Disturb in iPhones, but that should be turned on manually by user.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) director for Windows Phone business Greg Sullivan said the only thing the new operating system cannot control is block outgoing texts or calls. The driving feature of the operating system won’t prevent a teenager from texting during driving, but it wills definitely decreased distractions for individuals who want.
The new OS also will permit for improved resolution to hold in larger phones. At present, the OS supports up to 1280 X 768 pixels resolution, which is enough for devices with screens approximately five inches diagonally. But image and video feature degrades when expanded over five inch display, for example a Samsung Electronics Co 6.3-inch running on Android OS.
Windows Phone 8 software holds a 3.7% market share behind Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Android on the top and Apple’s iOS at second place, according to the data of second quarter of 2013. While shipments of mobile Window’s devices increased 78% to 8.7 million during April-to-June period, in contrast to same duration in 2012. Microsoft Corporation shares surged 0.23% to $34.22 in current session.
