A new research from Analysys Mason reveals that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will only ship as many Windows Phone units by 2017 as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will ship in this year. The recently published report predicts that Windows will be the fastest-growing operating system (OS) in terms of number of shipments in the next five years, rising to 136 million units by 2017 from 11 million units last year. However, Windows smartphones will represent only 9 percent of the smartphone shipments across the globe in 2017, when compared with Apple’s 23 percent and Android’s 58 percent.
However, the report suggests that Android smartphones will hold a 58% share of smartphone shipments by the end of coming year, but will then decline and retain that level of market share (despite a rising international market) for the next 4 years, mainly due to a lack of other platforms from which to capture extra market share.[article_detail_ad_1]
