Reports Claim That Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) May Unveil iPad On 17th Oct, Sales May Start On 2nd November
Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) is on the verge of introducing a smaller iPad within next two weeks. If it goes by its past practices, then it will start selling the new tablet in early November, as per a report.
A retail analyst at NPD group, Stephen Barker said that Apple will get enough time to make holiday sales season.
Quoting a ‘major Apple investor’, Elmer-DeWitt said that invitations for a launch event of iPad Mini is scheduled to go out on 10th October. This suggest 17th October as the event date and 2nd November as date for sales debut.
Apple had used similar timeline last month when on 4th September, it invited reporters and analysts to a function held on 12th September. That was to introduce iPhone 5. The smartphone had hit retail stores on 21st September.
An analyst of Topeka Capital Markets, Brian White said that the timing is perfect for holidays. Ezra Gottheil of Technology Business Research agreed with this, but only to some extent.
Gottheil believes that it is late, although not terribly late. It would have been ideal to have released the product at least a quarter before so as to tap people making decision long before buying the device.
Gottheil also said that 2nd of November as the date for start of sales outdoes the conventional holiday season opening in the Thanksgiving weekend of the US. He said that even if it is late, there are chances of getting the majority of potential customers. However, there are a number of alternatives like Barnes & Noble Nooks and Kindle Fires.
An iPad Mini is rumored to have a 7.85 inches screen. It is likely to have an immediate effect on apple’s sales.
A research analyst, Carolina Milanessi said that in spite of what Jobs had initially said about 7-inches screen factor, it is clear that there are two types of tablets. One is for consumptions and the other one is for creation and consumption.
