Wal-Mart Stores Reports Higher Profit -ACHN, WMT, NYMT, BTH, VQ
Achillion Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ACHN) went up 3.73% to $6.13. The stock is up as Idenix Pharmaceuticals said that the FDA has placed its lead compound for hepatitis C, IDX-184, on partial clinical hold. Achillion Pharmaceuticals with a portfolio of advancing compounds to treat hepatitis C. ACHN rises to the top of the list of potential takeover candidates in this drug segment.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT) decreased 3.08% to $72.16 after the Company announced second quarter results. Net income was $4.02 billion compared to $3.80 billion in the prior year period. Earnings per share were $1.18 versus $1.09 in the prior year period. However, analysts expected the Company to report earnings of $1.17 per share for the quarter. Net sales increased 4.5% to $113.5 billion. The Company expects third quarter fiscal 2013 earnings per share from continuing operations to range between $1.04 and $1.09.
New York Mortgage Trust Inc (NASDAQ:NYMT) declined 3.46% to $6.70. The Company announced the pricing of an underwritten registered public offering of 10,000,000 shares at a public offering price of $6.73 per share. The company has granted the underwriters an option to purchase up to an additional 1,500,000 shares of common stock. The offering is expected to close on August 21, 2012.
Blyth Inc (NYSE:BTH) jumped up 17.42% to $43.55. Blyth Inc announced that ViSalus has filed a registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a potential Initial Public Offering of its Class A common stock. The Company has declared a semi-annual cash dividend of $0.10 per share on the common stock for the six months ended June 30, 2012.
Venoco Inc (NYSE:VQ) increased 16.05% to $11.06. Venoco Inc said Tim Marquez, Chairman and Chief Executive intend to buy the Company. The deal is in advanced talks about the financing. Mr. Marquez, who holds a 50.3% stake, has offered to purchase all of the shares.
